i was recently asked by my good friends at migrashun to do a podcast for them. although i saw this as a good opportunity to try and piece a mix together in ableton for the first time, i ended up using my trusty serato with vinyl control. doing podcasts with ableton just brings out the perfectionist in me in a bad way: rather than concentrating on the records, i worry about putting them together in the most perfect way possible, completely forgetting about the flow of the mix. too close to the edit, so to say.
as i see it, a dj mix is about the records and the order in which they're played. mixing itself is of secondary importance, although it shouldn't be so bad as to attract attention. personally, i like to beatmatch because it involves me in what i do. but i have no problem with dj's who auto-sync everything, as long as they're involved in what they do. that's so much more important than being a real dj™, whatever the crap that means.

please 'right-click -> save' to download the podcast. here's the tracklisting:
- dirt rhodes - theo parrish (sound signature)
- closed circus (nick hoeppner rmx) - lee jones (cityfox)
- my world – sei a ( missive music)
- abyss – manoo (deeply rooted house)
- pilgrimage – mri (resopal)
- under the sycamore tree – marcus worgull (innervisions)
- time for decisions – daso vs. ofrin (connaisseur)
- train to nowhere – ripperton (green)
- borbola – steven m (two-b-music)
- skogen kaller – of norway (connaisseur)
- me & you – burnski (dessous)
- lights go down – mymy feat. emika (aus music)
- ganzfeld (lee jones) – minz (ransom note)
- dernier amour (ripperton rmx) – van hai (natura sonoris)
my favorite track of the set has to be the last one, where ripperton shows once again how delicate and beautiful electronic music can be.
